Anderson, first unseeded player to win US Open men’s singles title, dies
Australian tennis legend Mal Anderson has died aged 91. Anderson made history in 1957 as the first unseeded player to win the US Open men’s singles title and also won three Grand Slam doubles titles plus two Davis Cups. After retiring, he mentored young Australian players, including Pat Rafter, who called him “a true legend of the game” and a generous mentor.
